Our natural environment is never far from the news these days, from air pollution and loss of species diversity to the increasingly unpredictable effects of climate change.

Wingfield Parish Councillors are keen to look at what we can do at a local level to contribute to Wiltshire Council’s Climate and Natural Environment Plan.

During 2024 the Parish Council ran ‘A Greener Wingfield’ group to focus on protecting and enhancing our parish environment and engaging the community in creating a sustainable future for both people and planet. In October 2024 councillors decided that although the group had made progress, they wanted to take a clearer lead on nature, biodiversity and climate matters by integrating these matters into all areas of Parish Council decision making. Going forward, councillors will bring ideas and actions relating to the climate, nature and biodiversity directly to the Parish Council. Councillors will continue to build connections with other nature & climate groups and initiatives.

We would love residents to bring forward climate and nature ideas and suggestions for action to the Parish Council so that the Council can support ideas wherever possible.

The Wild Waters Festival

Wingfield Parish Councillors were part of a group of local councils and nature groups, representing communities along the River Avon and its tributaries that helped to run a very successful Wild Waters Festival in June 2025. The Festival’s aim was to celebrate nature and our local communities, whilst also looking at the effects of climate change and biodiversity loss that we see in and along the river.
The group are now considering the possibility of running more events in the future – please get in touch if you have ideas.

Thermal imaging camera

We have a thermal imaging camera available to borrow: this can be used to check for heat loss from your home.

Grants for special projects

Grant requests from residents for projects that will benefit the community and fit with the aims of a Greener Wingfield can be considered by the Parish Council.

Trees and hedgerows

We are working on a tree and hedgerow planting initiative to create a greener Wingfield. If you have space or land available for a larger growing native tree or trees, we may be able to help, please contact us.

How to get in touch

If you would like to book the thermal camera, have ideas about local wildlife, tree planting, sustainability or any suggestions relating to climate and nature please get in touch via the Clerk: clerk@wingfieldparishcouncil.gov.uk
