The rural landscape of Wingfield is an important feature that we are keen to maintain and promote. Wingfield Parish Council will also work towards increasing its biodiversity and promoting a greener village.

The Parish Council organise regular litter picks around the village. We encourage residents to join us for these events to keep our environment looking nice and remove plastics, glass and metals from the area. We provide hi-viz jackets, long handled litter pickers and waste bags. ‘Litter Picking’ signage makes drivers aware of activity alongside the roads. Whilst we encourage younger people to be involved, we would suggest that they should be over 12 years old to take part and must be accompanied by a parent/carer who will be responsible for them at all times.

Wiltshire Council have initiated a reduced hedge and verge cutting policy in support of the environment. Exits from junctions will be cut back to ensure visibility and if you think this needs to be undertaken at a specific location, please contact us and we’ll arrange for this to be attended to. Verge cutting can be a contentious matter, with strong views on both keeping the village looking tidy in a traditional style and on allowing nature to flourish, including insect wildlife. The Parish Council supports a green approach but understands that some landowners will cut back their own verges. We appreciate all opinions and would encourage engagement of the local community in continuing our green approach to maintaining the environment of our Parish.

Information about the maintenance of the local area and how to report issues is available on the Maintenance page.

Whilst the Parish Council is not directly responsible for public footpaths, we monitor and encourage the use of rights of way (public footpaths, bridleways and by-ways).  If residents spot an issue with the state of a footpath, access to a path (e.g. a gate or stile) or damaged or missing signage please contact the Parish Council.

The Parish Council has produced a ‘Walking in Wingfield’ map.

The Parish Steward helps with the maintenance of our village during scheduled monthly visits. There is more information on the Parish Steward page.

Most waste bins in the village are managed by the Parish Council. Wiltshire Council is responsible for the bin opposite The Poplars and the two lay-by bins (B3109 towards Bradford on Avon and A366 towards Trowbridge). The Parish Council contractors, idverde, empty the bins on a weekly basis. If you spot an overflowing bin please let the Parish Council know.

Leaving rubbish alongside bins constitutes illegal fly-tipping. Flytipping should be reported directly to Wiltshire Council via the MyWilts app for timely removal. Incidences of waste tipped elsewhere should be reported on the MyWilts app with a clear indication of its location (e.g. What3Words location)
