Wingfield is the only Green Belt village within Wiltshire. Section 13 of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) 2024 includes a paragraph outlining how villages within the Green Belt should be treated. It sets out that it may be necessary to prevent development in a village primarily because of the contribution that the open character of a village makes to the openness of the Green Belt.

Wingfield Parish Council believe that it is important to maintain and sustain the Green Belt land to prevent urban sprawl, to preserve the special character of the area, to retain agricultural land, and to preserve the biodiversity that Wingfield’s green, open landscape offers.

We will work towards this goal through…

  • Scrutinising routine planning applications and commenting to Wiltshire Council
  • Informing residents of significant new proposals; consulting, capturing views and commenting as appropriate
  • Encouraging villagers to respond to significant planning proposals
  • Responding to statutory consultations
  • Conducting village-wide surveys on needs and development priorities
  • Representing the village at Wiltshire Council planning committees, community Area Boards and public inquiries, and liaising with other parish councils
  • Monitoring proposed legislative changes and submitting views
