Wingfield Hidden Gardens – Sunday 9th July

SAVE THE DATE – The inaugural Wingfield Hidden Gardens event will take place on Sunday 9th July 2023 from 12 noon to 5pm.
This is an entirely FREE event and is open to all residents of the Parish, and their families and friends.
We have 15 gardens taking part from all corners of the village, comprising a wide variety of sizes, styles and stages of development – from the well-established and mature, to ‘work in progress’ gardens looking for ideas and inspiration.
This is not a competition, just a very informal way to share green-fingered ideas, meet and connect with others across the Parish, and spend a relaxing (and hopefully sunny!) afternoon strolling around the village.
Some of the gardens will be offering refreshments.
A map showing all the gardens taking part will be available nearer the time and will be popped through your letter box, or you can collect, (we’ll let you know where these can be obtained from in due course.)
So for now, be sure to keep this afternoon free in your calendar!

Climate Action Planning

Could you help with ideas or actions as part of a local Climate Action Plan?

Wiltshire Council recently held a Climate Emergency Support Workshop: Wiltshire Climate Action Day aimed at parish councils and attended by a Wingfield Parish Councillor.

This was an excellent day, learning about how our climate emergency will impact every single one of us, and steps that we can all take to enable us to devise a Climate Action Plan. Three of our councillors will be taking a lead on this, for Wingfield Parish Council, but if you have any ideas or would like to be involved in any way please contact: g.williams@wingfieldparishcouncil.gov.uk

Thank you so much for your understanding.  The litter in the village is very important to us.

Midsummer Festival, Saturday 10 June

Trowbridge Town Council is partnering with Trowbridge Town Hall in hosting a Mid-Summer Festival on Saturday 10 June, 2.00 -9.30pm, in Trowbridge Park. Free entry to all. Before it closes its doors in July for the major refurbishment of the Town Hall they wanted to thank the whole community and offer a flavour of the quality of creative talent it will continue to nurture when it re-opens again in the early part of 2025.

During the afternoon, the festival will offer great family entertainment, ranging from children’s theatre to high-wire acts, jugglers to puppetry, and dance performed in the beauty of the Sensory Gardens. It will also be a chance to see the amazing community company repeat the performance of The Four Winds, the project made in partnership with the National Theatre this year.

Whilst visitors can relax and watch the entertainment there will be a large street food and drinks quarter enjoy the festival feel. Music, Arts, Food and Drink what better way than to spend a Saturday in June!

In the evening, music will take centre stage with four acts that should appeal to everyone. Top of the bill will be emerging Trowbridge-based, singer/songwriter, Franki Soul. The event is being sponsored by Newland Homes. They said “We take great pride in being part of the communities in which we build… just one of the ways we’re ‘considerate, conscientious and crafted’ in our approach.”

Wingfield Hidden Gardens, Sunday 9 July 2023

The Parish Council is hoping to organise an afternoon where we can all explore and enjoy each other’s gardens!  The exact size, scope, and nature of this event is dependent on interest received, but if successful we would hope to hold “The Hidden Gardens” annually, and to donate any proceeds to local charities.

This is definitely not a garden competition. It is very much an informal community-based event to allow people to share ideas, tips, and to gain inspiration from each other’s gardens….and just as importantly, to connect with others in the village.

We are not setting a ‘standard’ of garden required for the event, nor are we showcasing amazing gardens (although we know there are many out there!) Even if you just have a window box or a plant that you are willing for people to admire, or a garden that you have plans for in the future, then we would love you to allow others to share in it. We firmly believe that if you love your garden, whatever stage it is at, and are generous enough to share it, then people will appreciate it.

So….if you think you may be interested in opening your own garden for others to enjoy, or if you would like any further information about the proposed event, then please contact:

John Watt

Email: john.watt01@yahoo.com

We would ask for any initial expressions of interest to be received by 28th Feb 2023, to allow us enough time to plan the event. There is no obligation at this stage whatsoever for those who express a wish to participate.

Thank you!

New Planning Application: The Green

Site Address

THE GREEN, TROWBRIDGE ROAD, WINGFIELD, TROWBRIDGE, BA14 9LE
Proposal:
The application seeks to obtain permission for the construction of a new potting shed, covered store and relocation of an existing greenhouse, plus the introduction of a visitor parking area.
Please note, in this instance, the Parish Council is unable to send comments to Wiltshire Council for the following reasons:

Cllr. Braunbarth is the owner/occupant of the building in question and as such has a pecuniary interest in these applications and would thus be disqualified from commenting on them as a member of Wingfield Parish Council. Wingfield Parish Council currently comprises three members – the minimum number for the Parish Council to be quorate.- and the absence of Cllr. Braunbarth will render the Council inquorate thereby disqualifying the Parish Council from commenting on these applications. All councillors (even Cllr. Braunbarth if he wishes) can offer comments on a personal basis.
